Why a picture of clogs? I hear you ask.
Well, they were worn locally by mill workers, factory workers, foundry workers, engineers, brewery workers, farm workers, coal delivery men, market stall holders, school children and probably everyone else that had feet. So they're as much a part of Blackburn's past, as every other posting on this blog !
In the 1925 trades directory for Blackburn, there were 68 cloggers listed as being in business in the town.
Locally made weaving shuttle (a bit of a 'go with' for the clogs)

Hey Colin these are fantastic. What a piece of Blackburn heritage. People often ask me what Lancashire clogs were like so now I can show them, pretty indestructible weren't they? Did you know that you can buy clogs at Oswaldtwistle Mills?

Glad you like them DMC. I bought these ones in an antique shop in Wilpshire (now a hairdressers) about 10 years ago. They're the genuine articlem probably made and worn in the early part of the 20th century. They're difficult to date, unless you're an expert like Bob Dobson (and I'm not).
