Billinge End looking towards Revidge Rd - c1910
Another view of the crossroads at Billinge End. This time looking from Billinge End Road into Revidge Road. Circa 1910. I think the bloke with the pole was after conkers.
MMMM..I not sure about the conker theory Colin, the tree looks more like a "Revidge Redwood" to me, not a "Horse Chestnut" one. I think that it's an Apprentice "Knocker Up" practicing on the people on the top deck of the Tram.
The trams from Blackburn town centre used to terminate at the end of Preson New Road and Revidge road. The chap with the pole (I think) had to turn the connecting rod around for the return journey into Blackburn.

ReplyDeleteI think that it's an Apprentice "Knocker Up" practicing on the people on the top deck of the Tram.
Or a trainee pole vaulter, who's just landed after leaping over the tram.
ReplyDeleteWas the pole for adjusting the electricity pick up device on top of the tram?
ReplyDeleteMore than likely, something like that anyway.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the link for the Olive Green & Ivory site, Duncan will know the answer to that question.
Cheers !
